Take a hike Arlen

I know I should not say it, but I want you to take a hike Arlen Specter. Do anything, but stop running for office. You will be 80 years old next year and it is time to call it a day. Before you call me an ageist, let me state that I strongly believe that nobody has the right to fire a person unless that person no longer fullfills the requirements of the job. Having said that, I plan to fire you in next year's primaries.

This is not about me not appreciating what you have done for the state and its citizens. You have seemed mostly a thoughtful man, despite your 'misunderstanding' of Anita Hill. What really made the difference for me was that you changed your party affiliation because you did not see a chance to win the Republican primary. Instead of trying to redefine the Republican party as one that has an important role to play in our de-facto two-party system, you took the easy way out. Instead of advocating your political philosophy and how it fits within the Republican ideal, you decided to take it easy and jump over the fence.

Admittedly, you deserve to take it easy after all what you have been through physically, but I will vote for vigor, not for hanging on.

Finally, I was very disappointed that president Obama made a commitment to support you in next year's primary. It means that the two of you made a deal. I can see why, and if it helps to get your vote on health care legislation, I thank you for it. It should make for a beautiful ending to your storied political and public career.
