A bonus for common sense

Before they were merged with or were aquired by Bank of America, Merill Lynch managment move ahead the date at which they normally grant bonuses to their employees. Thus, 2008 bonuses were paid out before the year was over. ML had an accumulated los in the tens of billions for 2008.

What Wall Street does not understand and what Tosoh Bioscience and most other companies get, that you do not pay a bonus when you do not make a profit. I am not trying to make  my company look enlightened nor cold hearted. It is common sense that few people will have a tough time to understand. It is only high level managment, not professionals and hourly employees, that would expect to get an extra award just for doing their job. People who expect to share in profits when times are good do not need to be reminded that when there is no money to give, that there is no money to share.

When you use common sense there is no need to return to doing what is right.
